Oh god, I just loved this book! It was everything I needed after a couple months with no time to read. It was everything I love in a romance. It was sweet and hot and ROMANTIC and it was ALL about the romance.

By and large, this is a story about two people who simply fall in love with each other. Cailean and Daisy meet and it’s clear from the start that they belong together. The sexual tension is instantaneous and Julia London maintains it throughout the entire book.

From the get go, Cailean and Daisy treat each other with respect, as equals. There’s no ulterior motives between them. They don’t spend the novel trying to get some hidden, intangible thing from each other. Their worlds just collide and then they fall in love, even though neither of them were looking for it or even wanted it or could even have it. It just happens and as the book goes on you can feel more and more how their hearts beat for each other.

Somehow they become friends and then come to truly care about one another. Through it all they are both refreshingly honest. There’s no lying, no deceit, just the bald, blatant truth, whatever it may be. Sometimes that truth was hot and breathtaking, and at others angst-ridden and heartbreaking. It’s the kind of book that can make your insides twist up and then melt over and over again.

The sexual tension is perhaps the best I’ve ever read. Because sparks fly in every scene, every interaction. Every touch sizzles. Julia London does an amazing job bringing their chemistry to life. She reminded me of those early moments with someone new, someone that you know could be more, where you get butterflies and your skin tingles from the smallest touches.

And that was this whole book, it never fizzles. Just moment after moment of hot, burning desire and need and waves and waves of heat, all running right alongside endless bursts of butterflies and those feelings of falling in love.

I admit there’s a lot of cliche HR tropes in this book. Some of the things that happen were maybe a bit tired and unoriginal. But I simply don’t care. What felt original to me was that the romance goes so far beyond what other books do. Every moment is about them and how they feel and how they’re falling. There’s the heat, as mentioned. But there’s also tenderness and sweetness and two people who truly care for one another and don’t abuse each other. And you see it and feel it in every interaction. They smile. They flirt. They joke. They’re heartfelt. They find reasons to just be together, even when they shouldn’t.

The actual love scenes are a bit short. But it didn’t matter because the build up was perfection. So, it wasn’t only the sex that brought the heat and heart. It was a caress of the arm, a touch of the face or the back of the neck. It was the intertwining fingers, or subtle, nearly imperceptible touches they just had to have. It was their inability to not touch each other and the stolen glances and lingering looks. That when they weren’t together, they were longing for each other. And whether they were together or not, they were aching for each other.

That is what I loved about this book. It’s so rich and romantic and it feels like lust and love and everything in between. Maybe it’s that I haven’t read in a while. Maybe at a different time it wouldn’t feel the same. I don’t know. But it hit all the right spots for me and I simply adored it.
