This was the first MM romance I’ve read. I enjoy love in all its forms so I thought I’d give it a try. It was ok. There was a sexiness to it but it felt underdeveloped in both the romance department and sex department. Perhaps that seems a strange complaint for something that is clearly novella length, but it just felt rushed as opposed to being a short story.

There was only perspective from one character so I really missed hearing the other POV. Sex was often rushed. Shawn kept “suddenly finding himself” in a situation. They’re kissing and suddenly he realizes he’s on the ground or in a bed naked. Shawn was also always giving Rutledge what he wanted and the roles never reversed. I wanted to see Rutledge be interested in giving more to Shawn and it never really happened.

From the romance side, there was very little talk of emotions. Definitely desire but not much else. The end was very rushed and just suddenly said “The End” when I wasn’t even expecting it.

It had potential. It’s fine for a light, sexy afternoon read but very few feels going on.
