3.5 Stars

This book is hard for me to rate because I loved it but there were things about it that I thought really got in the way. I absolutely loved McKenna and Aline. I love their story. I love how much they loved each other. You can really feel their undying love. It’s sweet and touching and heartbreaking and then wonderful.

But half the book was spent on Livia and Gideon’s romance, which just took away from the time that could have been spent on Aline and McKenna. Their romance was ok. It was sweet. But it was not developed enough. It was hard to believe they could fall for each other so quickly and most of their relationship was spent on sex scenes, which were well written, but lacked passion. I need love scenes in a book, but the secondary characters had more sex than the main characters. And the scenes were more fully written. Then they also lacked emotional development.

This book felt like two novellas mashed together. And perhaps it was?? I don’t read novellas usually because of the issues above. I wanted so much more for McKenna and Aline to happen in this book so I’m feeling a little let down.

All that said though, the writing was great. There are a few scenes that have emotions written so well they are soul crushing. I just wish there had been more of that. I feel this book is a 3.5 stars for me, but I’m rounding up to 4 because it was still a good book, with great, even if underdeveloped, characters. I definitely will read the next book in the series.
